We’re BACK!

August 23, 2008 · Leave a Comment

It’s been a helluva a while since we updated this thing.  Alison and I just moved in to our new abodes and it’s looking quite snazzy.  So we are READY for this school year and we hope you are too.  I just wanted to let you guys know that you will probably find us tonight at THE LOT Festival at The Schlafly Tap Room.  The show begins at 4pm with The Monads and end at midnight with So Many Dynamos.  Also it is the last Victoria show.  So basically I don’t really know what else you could be doing on a Saturday night. You can check out the schedule, here via A to Z.

Lollygagging at Lollapalooza!

August 13, 2008 · 1 Comment

Better late than never is my policy

Well I have since returned back to my glorious air conditioned house opposed to the scorching hot baseball diamonds of Grant Park at Lollapalooza. I have been going to Lollapalooza since 2004 and this year I definitely felt a little bit old. I wasn’t hardcore about standing for shows as I used to be. So this year I tried to take it easier considering I almost passed out at Grizzly Bear because of dehydration. So easy enough like my Pitchfork Festival review, I’ll quickly run through highlights of the bands that I got to see. (This time they include pictures yay!) Oddly enough all the shows that I went to required the crowd to be either eeriely silent or a maniac dance crowd.

Friday, August 1st

-Yeasayer was a glorious way to start my Lollapalooza weekend. They always do great in any situation.

-Grizzly Bear is lovely. Hearing new Grizzly Bear material is lovely. I am in love with them.

-CSS is crazy and made me want to dance like crazy.

-Radiohead is AMAZING! Life changing! Talk about seeing fireworks.

Saturday, August 2nd

-Dr. Dog made me say, “why don’t I listen to more Dr. Dog?”

-Explosions In The Sky is the biggest regret not seeing this past spring at the Pageant. I knew not to make that mistake ever again. They were my adorable instrumental triumphant rock babies.

-Okkervil River is so cute. I wanted him to sing all his love songs to me and he did.

-Battles is exactly what any nerd wants to hear. Definitely geeked out and spasticly gyrated my body like a robot for these guys. New material!!! YES!

-Rage Against The Machine let me thrash out all of my teenage angst that I ever held in my entire life. Now I can be a happy person because Zack said I was one of his sisters.

Sunday, August 3rd

-The Octopus Project always makes me feel happy. They were so cute because they were so excited and sincerely happy to perform at Lolla.

-Kid Sister is cray cray and I love it. She made me want to dance regardless that it was early and felt like 125 degrees.

-Chromeo, a continuation of my dance craze. Made me want to show him my ‘fancy footwork.’

- I went to Iron & Wine expecting to do what I always do when I listen to Iron & Wine which is take naps. As always, awesome.

-The National = yes! Simply put as YAY!

-Girl Talk is always great and even greater when Greg gets angry at a crowd for not getting to tase worthy proportions. Well maybe if you had played “hands in the air”, Greg!

-Kanye West didn’t freak out like he did two years ago. So it was simple pure entertainment. Quite exciting to hear that the rest of the crowd had religiously learned all of Kanye West’s lyrics as well as I did.

Okay, so that was a summary of my weekend.  It was fabulous and I wonder if this will be my last Lolla.  I’m only getting older!  So we will see.

The Hood Internet like Mariah Carey almost as much as our friend Liz does

August 5, 2008 · 2 Comments

I just found this Hood Internet mash-up. It kinda ruuuuuules. It’s called “Bring the Tabloid Scores” and includes Public Enemy’s “Bring the Noise” on top of Nosaj Thing’s remix of HEALTH’s “Tabloid Scores”.

The Hood are busy putting together their third official mixtape, set for release at the end of August. They’ll be playing two sets at the Monolith Festival in Colorado on September 14. After a few scattered gigs around NYC and Chicago, the duo will be hitting up CMJ once again (last year’s show totally ruled!) and Mexico City after that.

As if they weren’t busy enough, the Hood entered Mariah Carey’s remix contest. The rules? Remix her latest track, “I’ll Be Lovin’ U Long Time” (ew) and if you win, you become her “top friend” on MySpace for a month. The Hood’s mix pins Carey against Dosh. Czech it:

Just when it seems it can’t get any weirder with the two, it does. Since The Hood are LOST fanatics, they created this viral video that mixes clips from the series with an MC Luscious track. The joint is deceivingly called “LOST Season 5 Sneak Preview”. I know virtually nothing about LOST but this song is buck.

New Spank Rock remixes always make me happy

August 4, 2008 · 4 Comments

So, it’s Monday. Sanita spent all weekend at Lollapalooza and I spent my weekend in the fair city of Cleveland. I got to see Matt & Kim at my favorite Cleveland venue on Saturday, though, and that was a real treat. Now it’s back to the week and back to work for some. Mondays don’t mean much to me though, since I have no job and am not in school this summer. BUT, i’m sure all y’alls people out there who have things to do on Mondays will enjoy this little Spank Rock remix, sent to me by a dude named Leg-No in London. He even included a (remixed?) video! It’s a fairly decent remix, not making me go cray-cray, but I’ll let you decide.

God Warriors Of The Week

August 2, 2008 · Leave a Comment

The God Warriors for the week of August 3rd are Trey Told ‘Em.

(via their MySpace)

Trey Told ‘Em is a cool band. Trey Told ‘Em is a funky band. Trey Told ‘Em is the side-project of that one Gregg Gillis dude and Frank Mussara of Hearts of Darknesses. Like Girl Talk, it kinda blows my mind. Now, the dudes are a little cray-cray, but who’s asking? I saw the two of them perform on the same bill (not as Trey Told ‘Em, but whateva) when I was probably 15, and it was insanity. Their live show looked strikingly similar to the photo above, except a lot less clothing was involved.

They are God Warriors because they took a Tokyo Police Club song (a band that I think is just kinda OK) and made it into a feast for the ears. They also remixed a song by Professor Murder (another band that I think is just kinda OK). Point is, Trey Told ‘Em rulez because they made those two bands’ songs much better. Cheers!
